These images do not make justice to the injustices that took place in these buildings.
During the 1970s and into the early 1980s, the military government in Argentina systematically kidnapped and tortured tens of thousands of argentines. Ultimately, the government murdered over 30,000 people.
For many of them, the ESMA, was the place where that nightmare started: an undercover Ford falcon vehicle sweept you from your apartment usually in the middle of the night, placed a hood over your head and threw you in the back of the car. That car made its way to this illegal detention center where you where tortured relentlessly and lived in the most horrid of human conditions.
Many women Who arrive pregnant would deliver the babies here; only for this baby to be kidnapped yet again; usually by a military family who was not able to conceive. There have also been numerous stories of women were raped during captivity, got pregnant and gave birth to a baby that followed the same terrible path.
One of the darkest period in Argentina history.
